James Sherlock

Based in Melbourne, James brings decades of professional performing and teaching experience to his lessons. His teaching focuses on developing strong musicianship, improvisation, rhythm, ear training, repertoire and personal expression, while helping students build practical skills for real world performance. Whether working with intermediate, advanced players or professional musicians, James is known for his thoughtful, encouraging approach and his ability to make complex musical concepts clear and inspiring. Students can expect lessons that combine deep jazz knowledge with creativity, musicality and a genuine passion for helping players grow their individual voice on the instrument.

James Sherlock is currently an Associate Artist and Guitar Teacher at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) as well as long standing sessional Guitar Teacher at both the Victorian College of the Arts at Melbourne University (VCA) and the Sir Zelman Cowen Conservatorium of Music at Monash University.

Due to high demand, James maintains a limited number of private teaching spots but can accommodate dedicated and passionate students whenever possible so please get in touch to discuss further.
